18. What did the chief minister Shri Keshubhai Patel and Param Pujya Morari Bapu say to promote the water storage project?

18108 check-dams were constructed in Vikalia village. An excellent atmosphere was created in the village for water storage activities. The combined efforts of the villagers living in the village as well as the villagers settled in Surat made Vikalia a beautiful green village. All the people of the village-elders, youngsters and children- were greatly excited and enthusiastic. A very huge program was organized in the presence of the then chief minister Keshubhai Patel and Param Pujya Shri Morari Bapu. Water storage village committees of more than 200 villages were honoured in the program. Renowned persons from Surat and Mumbai attended the program in large numbers. More than 1 lac people remained present in it. Mr. Rajeshbhai Mehta who had given a very huge monetary support and great encouragement to Saurashtra Jaldhara Trust also came to attend the program from Antwerpe.

In my lecture I made a humble request to Shri Keshubhai Patel to allot a fund of 1000 crores for the water storage project this year. In reply Shri Keshubhai Patel said, “Saurashtra Jaldhara Trust has launched a water storage project all over Gujarat. A very useful work is being done and it deserves great appreciation. This is my appeal to lacs of people present in this program that they should launch such water storage projects in each and every village. Mathurbhai has made an appeal to allot 1000 crore rupees for the project. I say I will contribute a greater amount. Carry on the water storage activities across Gujarat and the government will always be willing to give financial support.”

Param Pujya Shri Morari Bapu also said in his speech, “One year ago in Gadhada assembly I had given a promise to take bath in a pond constructed by the farmers. Today I am fulfilling my promise by taking bath in Dudhiba pond of Vikalia village. It is a matter of great joy for me.” Afterwards Param Pujya Morari Bapu explained the value of water to the lacs of people present in the program. He made an appeal to the people, “Saurashtra Jaldhara Trust has been doing many invaluable activities of water storage. This project is a blessing for all the people. I have received a letter from Shri Mathurbhai. He has written in the letter, ‘I have launched the water storage project. I have no selfish interest in it. Nor do I intend to prepare a political platform for me. I am actively involved in the water storage project without any selfish motive. I have started the project for the welfare and well being of so many people. It is absolutely true that the project will have many positive outcomes mentioned below:

  • Water level in the wells of the village will come up.
  • It will remarkably increase our agricultural produce.
  • Unemployment will be abolished and each and every person will get some work.
  • Every village will be green.

Without expecting anything in return, I am carrying out these important activities.’”

Morari Bapu continued, “I am very glad and satisfied to read this letter of Mathurbhai. This young man is very mature and sensible and he has been working without any selfish interest. We should appreciate Mathurbhai’s selfless service and should willingly join in his mission. I assure you that whenever you are in need of my presence or support for the progress of the project I will always be present.” This is how Morari Bapu gave tremendous encouragement and strength to us and we were fortunate to receive a cheque of Rs 11000 from Morari Bapu as a token of his blessings.Param Pujya Morari Bapu’s appeal to the people and his presence in a number of programs organized to promote the project gave the strength and courage to achieve our goal.
