35. How were the JCB machines of Saurashtra Jaldhara Trust given to the village people?

In 1997 there were very few JCB machines. Hence it was very difficult to get a JCB machine at proper time and its rental charges were also very high. Hence the village committee could not afford the rent. At that time Saurashtra Jaldhara Trust purchased 40 JCB machines with the financial support of some benevolent and generous donors. We lent these JCB machines rent free to the village committee. The committee had to bear only the cost of diesel. Moreover we also provided them with cement bags at a very low rate and technical staff to help and guide them. An announcement was made in various programs that village committees would get Saurashtra Jaldhara Trust’s JCB machines rent – free. This information was conveyed through press notes and other booklets of the Trust. During the four months of monsoon JCB machines were not used but during the remaining eight months of winter and summer they were continuously kept operational. In many villages of Saurashtra, Kutch and North Gujarat ponds, check-dams and farm-ponds have been constructed using the machines of the Trust.
